CHIKMAGALUR is a coffee city consisting of hill stations located in the western part of Karnataka, rich in iron ore, having waterfalls around the city, the states highest peak, Mullaiahnagiri is 15 kms away from the city.

Chikmagalur District is consisting of seven taluks having Chikmagalur as a Head quarters. The large urban population is in Chikmagalur. Bhadra Wildlife sanctuary is one beautiful spot of Chikmagalur along with the Famous Baba Budan Hills normally called as CHANDRA DRONA HILLS.

Known for world famous giri coffee producing area, the city extends over an area of 27.00 sq.kms.

The History of Chikmagalur can be traced from the 9th Century A.D or even further back to the mythological period of King Janamejaya. Even Ganga Kings in the 9th Century and 13th Century Hoysalas have ruled Chikmagalur. It was under the ruling of Keladi Shivappa Naika and under Hyder Ali, then under the Kings of Mysore. It is also called as old Mysore. Father of our nation, Mahathma Gandhi has visited Chikmagalur during Freedom fighting movement.
